Sleep mainland in Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay if you want showers and a supermarket, then a licensed day tour. If overnighting on K’gari, prefer fenced camps and Be Dingo-Safe — children within arm’s reach.
Rainbow Beach for Inskip (typically no barge booking; hours change). Hervey Bay for booked River Heads products. Fill fuel the night before. Do not count on island bowsers.
Rainbow for Cooloola colour. Eurong-area for eastern beach icons. Hervey Bay is the western-ferry town — not a substitute for a Boorangoora car park.

National park camping is booked through the Queensland National Parks Booking Service. On K’gari, fenced camps are preferred for families overnighting with dingo (wongari) rules in force. Peak school holidays fill early. We never take commission on official camping permits.
Commercial resorts, lodges and apartments (mainland or on-island) use operator or Booking.com channels — a different product from QPWS camping. Search inventory below or book direct with the property.

Strong base for Cooloola coloured sands, Double Island Point beach runs and Inskip Point barge logistics to K’gari. Fuel, food and commercial stays without full island self-sufficiency every night.

Mainland services town for many River Heads ferry products, whale-season side trips and multi-day K’gari packages. Ideal when you want AC recovery between sand days.

Useful for southern Cooloola approaches and combined Sunshine Coast itineraries. Longer transfer to northern beach icons — plan daylight and tides carefully.
